Today Joel and Benji Madden definitely live the lifestyle of the rich and famous. However, things weren’t so great back then.
In an exclusive interview with The Dirt, the Madden brothers candidly revealed that two songs from their Cardiology album explored their troubled past.
Joel explains that Let The Music Play relates to a period before they signed their first record deal – struggling to juggle multiple jobs, finances and their family living in the ghetto whilst trying to crack the big time.
1979 aims to reconcile earlier songs which seemed to take shots at the Madden’s father, with Benji saying that “my dad’s gotten a bad wrap on our records.”
“In actuality, he’s the hardest working guy I’ve ever met in my life… he’s made some mistakes, I’ve made some mistakes, everybody has.”
